MD-TEC is a unique, state of the art usability facility undertaking ergonomic and user-based testing on pre regulatory medical technologies The Clinical Director Professor Tom Clutton-Brock is a senior clinical academic in anaesthesia and intensive care with a career long success in bringing new medical devices to market. We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Research Fellow in anaesthesia who will be supervised by Professor Clutton-Brock and Simon Smart to provide the clinical lead on all innovation studies. The majority of studies will be around usability; however it is anticipated that there will be some requirement around clinical investigation development and delivery, along with adoption evaluations.

Clinical Practice § Maintain patient and research subject confidentiality at all times. § Assist research team in administrative duties for clinical trial start-up, initiation, maintenance, and study closure. § Work with the Research department to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. § Assist in the entry of accurate and timely documentation of data in patient Case Report Forms (CRFs) either on paper or electronic versions. § Assist the research team and monitors the resolution of raised data queries. § Assist the research teams in the maintenance of the trial site file e.g. collating and filing paperwork, obtaining signatures for the delegation log. § Assist the research team in the entry and maintenance of accurate information on databases such as the patient recruitment database. § GCP Training and IATA Training § Working on commercial and non-commercial studies and Pharmaceutical companies adhering to their research protocols and ensuring the studies are delivered effectively. § Attend Investigator meetings and Site Initiation meetings as appropriate. § Working closely with the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network. § Under supervision, or independently after the appropriate training, carry out clinical procedures required for clinical trials including but not limited to : blood pressure recordings, heart and respiratory rate, height, weight and BMI assessment, collection of blood and urine samples, measurement of hip/waist circumference and conducting ECGs. § Report all findings from clinical procedures to the clinical research team and accurately document as advised by the team in appropriate research files, logs, case report forms and databases. § Process blood and urine samples according to clinical trial protocols such as: Preparing blood slides, serum separation using a centrifuge and pipetting to separate blood and serum samples. § Preparing these samples for ambient or frozen storage and shipment as directed and arrange couriers for the safe and timely transport of all clinical samples. § Helping to run searches on electronic system, to highlight suitable patients for studies. § Assisting with monitoring visits for studies, when CRAs attend site. § Reading research protocols and SOPs. The Depertment of Medical Oncology at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce a Clinical Research Fellow post in Medical Oncology.

This post is intended to support the department's research programme with particular focus ont eh delivery of early phase cancer trials including phase I and ATiMP trials. The position will be appointed for 1 year in the first instance, with opportunities for extension.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Join a team of research fellows supporting research within the Department of Medical Oncology and based predominantly within our Clinical Research Facility.
• The fellow will have roles in managing, coordinating and safety governance for specific early phase cancer trials.
• Be responsible for specific study-related medical decisions within their expertise, providing medical cover for studies and study visits, as well as out of hours cover, where required, on weekdays to allow for treatments that continue beyond 5pm.
• Work in teams with research nurses, allied health professionals and the relevant Principal Investigators.
• Be supported by the other fellows in Cancer Care and the Principal Investigators of the respective studies in these activities.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Good communication skills as this is essential in maintaining trust with our research participants.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in plans/schedules due to the fast-paced nature of early phase cancer trials work, where protocols and requirements can be complex and change very quickly.
• Demonstration of excellent teamwork as this role requires working and communicating with a wide range of individual from different teams (e.g. pharmacy, lab, admin, nursing etc).
• Must have completed Foundation Training and Core Medical Training (or equivalent) and be able to function independently, with support as/when required and specific to the individual’s level of previous experience

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Basic Salary - MT04 £55,329 Basic Salary – MT05 £63,152

Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5;
• Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training
• Hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
• A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee)

Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.
